Hair Removal & Hair Growth

Electrolysis and laser hair removal are complementary procedures. Laser hair removal can remove dark hairs but not lighter ones. Electrolysis can eliminate blonde, white, gray, and red ones.  We are one of the few places in Minneapolis that offer both electrolysis and laser hair removal. We understand the benefits and limitations of both procedures. We can combine these treatments, taking care of all our patient’s needs.

Removing hair starts with understanding the hair growth cycle

The Hair Growth Cycle

Hair grows from its root, called a follicle, underneath the skin. Blood vessels nourish the follicle as it grows through four different stages. The hairs on your body do not go through these stages together. Each one is at a different stage.

Hair Growth Stages

Stage 1: Anagen or Growing Stage

The growing stage lasts two to seven years and determines the length of the hair.

Stage 2: Catagen or Transition Stage

The transition stage last approximately 10 days, during which time the follicle shrinks and becomes detached from the surrounding skin.

Stage 3: Telogen or Resting Stage

The resting stage lasts approximately three months, during which time new hair begins to grow.

Stage 4: Exogen or New Hair Phase

The last stage of hair growth is the new hair phase, where old hair sheds away and new hair continues to grow.

Laser or electrolysis hair removal procedures cannot treat dormant follicles in stage 3, but can eliminate active follicles in stages 1, 2, and 4. We space your electrolysis and laser hair removal treatments over a number of weeks and months to catch new hair growth.
